About Promptsource

Last updated

Promptsource is a free library of system prompts: full sets of instructions that set up an AI assistant for one job, such as drafting an email, planning a week of meals or writing a lesson plan. Each prompt tells the assistant what to ask you, what to check and how to lay out its answer, and ends with a bracketed slot where your own request goes.

The prompts work in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other assistants, pasted in as a project's or custom assistant's instructions, or as the first message of a chat. The guides cover each of those in detail.

What is on a prompt page

  • A one-line description, then what the prompt does, what to give it and what you get back.
  • The prompt itself, with a button to copy it and a plain-text version.
  • On some pages, a worked example: a sample request and the response the prompt produced. Responses vary between runs and between models.
  • Links to other prompts in the same category.

Prompts are added, combined and renamed over time. When a prompt moves, its old address redirects to the new one.
